We change up the format a little bit tonight and jump right in to some news. Listen in to find out which movie Ross took exception to on Johnny’s GBU List. ![]()
Other things we discuss tonight…
- Box Office Top 5
- Tim Burton doing Sleeping Beauty?
- Avatar: The Best-Selling movie of all time?
- Worst IMDb profiles
- Ross and Johnny geek out a bit over a possible Mortal Kombat reboot
- Gremlins 3 in glorious 3D?
- The Last Airbender
- Someone in the Weinstein camp explains why they didn’t pick up Rodriguez’s Machete
Our movie review this week was Drew Barrymore’s directorial debut, Whip It. Find out what we think of it. Why does Ross hate Austin so much? Who was that guy in the jean shorts? Edgy? Formulaic? What’s Daniel Stern doing in this movie? Hear what we have to say about these topics and lots more. If you’ve seen it or you’d like to comment, please feel free to either send us an email to podcast@goodbaduglyfilms.com or leave us a voicemail via Skype.

We’re a man down to start, but Johnny joins us a few minutes into the show. With the Golden Globes just over, take a listen to what we think about how it all turned out. Were the winners deserving? Why was everyone so angry? Why do I avoid watching awards shows if I can? Get the answers to these questions right at the beginning of the show. Other stuff we discuss:
- Is Ivan Reitman the right man for the job of helming Ghost Busters 3?

- Box Office results… Does the Avatar hate-fest continue from Allen?
- Peter Jackson’s The Lovely Bones
- Just when you thought there couldn’t be more… Avatar news
- Ross brings us word of a Jessica Rabbit lady in the UK
- Four Brothers is getting a sequel? WTF?
- Mamma Mia! is getting a prequel, much to Ross’ delight
- Serial Killer Movies
- Canadian Films/Directors
- and more!
Our movie review this week was going to be Peter Jackson’s, The Lovely Bones, but Johnny and Ross didn’t get a chance to watch it. The Invention of Lying by Ricky Gervais was chosen instead because more of us had seen it. Listen to what Ross, Allen and John think of it. How does it compare to Stranger Than Fiction? Defending Your Life? Strong points? Weak points?
If you’ve seen either The Invention of Lying or The Lovely Bones and think that we missed some key points or didn’t talk about a certain aspect of something long enough, please feel free to send us an email with your comments to: podcast@goodbaduglyfilms.com. You can also comment directly on this article, or send us a voice mail via Skype.
The next movie we’ll be reviewing is Drew Barrymore’s, Whip It.

*It turns out that Mark was right after all. He wasn’t dead, just in a coma.
Our next GBU List is going to be coming to you thanks to Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s new film, Tooth Fairy. It’s about an unapologetic hockey enforcer that for some reason incurs the wrath of the powers that be and as punishment, has to spend a week as a tooth fairy. An instant classic with Oscar Buzz written all over it. Put on your thinking caps boys and girls and send us in YOUR Good, Bad and Ugly lists for Fairy movies. You can either send us a voice mail via Skype, or send us an email to: podcast@goodbaduglyfilms.com. If we get your lists before next Monday afternoon (PST), we’ll read them on the podcast and post them here on the website. Just imagine the fame and fortune that’ll come from that.

Ross isn’t with us tonight due to circumstances fully within his control.
Two possible reasons for him being too sick to record the podcast are him subjecting himself to 20+ hours of torture outlawed by the Geneva convention on the weekend, or the little presents he found at the bottom of his coffee cup. You’ll have to listen to underst
and what I’m talking about. Heh.
No big surprises at the top of the Box Office this week, just stunned incredulity at how certain films are making so much cash. Without Ross here to feed us some offbeat movie news, we just stuck with the stuff we gleaned from the new wires. This week in the news:
- Spider-Man 4 is dead
- An Avatar sequel is on the horizon
- The Netflix/Warners deal and possible repercussions
- The Hangover is the #1 Comedy DVD
- Caesar says, “Et tu, Fox?” as Planet of the Apes reboot is killed
Our movie reviewed this week was Rob Zombie’s Halloween II. Zombie continues his foray into the horror movie genre with another remake. How does it compare with the original? How well does it work with Zombie’s Halloween remake? Is Michael more or less human? What’s the difference between jam and jelly? Is Zombie growing as a director? What’s next? The answers to most of these questions are answered in our review. Listen in to find out what we think. If you feel that we’ve missed some salient points, or glossed over something you thought was pretty important, please feel free to call us on it by commenting on this article, emailing us at podcast@goodbaduglyfilms.com or even leaving us a voicemail via Skype telling us what you think. Your responses will be read or played on the podcast.

Our next GBU List is going to be on the new Peter Jackson film, The Lovely Bones, which will be expanding into a wide release this week. It’s a story about a murdered girl and what she does with herself after that. Get out your thinking caps and start going through your movie collections for Good, Bad, and Ugly GHOST movies. We look forward to hearing your lists, so feel free to send us a copy to podcast@goodbaduglyfilms.com or leave a voicemail via Skype. We’ll also be reviewing The Lovely Bones next week, so stay tuned movie fans.

In Michael Crichton’s 1981 Sci-fi Thriller “Looker,” models were being digitally scanned into computers so their likeness’ could be later used in commercials and films – a process very similar
to the motion capture techniques used in films like Robert Zemeckis’ “A Christmas Carol” or James Cameron’s “Avatar.”
In Sidney Lumet’s 1976 satire “Network,” writer Paddy Chayefsky envisioned a world where network television became the home for reality television and celebrated the sensational – perhaps prophesising the landscape of television today.
Often when looking at older films we spot things that would eventually come to pass, and in this episode we take a look some of the gadgets, technology and social changes some films saw before we did. We also talk about some of the cool things we have seen in movies that have not yet been realized, but we still want!
Whoo Hoo! It’s a brand new year and we start things off with a bang! Well, it was more me hitting my mic stand, but don’t worry, I edited that out so it wouldn’t assault your ears. No, I saved our voices for that task.
Johnny is in LA, hanging out with all the famous people down there, so it’s just Los Tres Amigos at the mics, telling it like it is.![]()
The big news at the Box Office is again Avatar stealing everyone else’s lunch money. Listen in to all the other movers and shakers on the Box Office top ten.
A rather slow news week thanks to the holidays, but we still come up with a few gems…
- Zelda Rubinstein is NOT dead
- Star Trek Sequel starts production next December
- Mel Gibson is attached to Mad Max 4 – producing? cameo?
- Paramount’s micro-budget movie idea
- Disney and Stan Lee say, “POW!”
The movie we reviewed this week was Adam. This one kind of snuck under the radar for the most part. Is it a retelling of the whole Adam and Eve story? How does it compare to Rain Man? How would you classify it? What do we think of it? All these questions and more are answered in our review. Listen in and give us your thoughts. Comment right here on the page, or send us an email with your thoughts and opinions to: podcast@goodbaduglyfilms.com. We look forward to hearing from you.

There’s a nice crop of new movies coming out next week that we could have based our next GBU List on, but we decided to go with Youth In Revolt. It stars Michael Cera as both an introverted shy kid that doesn’t know how to talk to girls, and his suave, dangerous alter-ego, Francois. Our list will be on movies with Teen Rebellion. Get out your thinking caps, boys and girls, and send us in your choices. You can comment right here on the page, send an email to podcast@goodbaduglyfilms.com, or leave us a voicemail via Skype. Any way you get it to us, make sure it’s in before Monday afternoon so we can read them on the podcast.

The beginning of a New Year is a time for shedding the bad habits of the past and look for ways to improve ourselves and the efficiency in which we do things. In that spirit, we at GBUF have resolved to make 2010 a better year in film – or would, if we were Hollywood.
Check out our suggestions for the powers that be in Hollywood, and send us your own to podcast@goodbaduglyfilms.com
